Not too many people could get Michelle Obama, Oprah, and the U.S. Attorney General in one room together, but the late Maya Angelou is quite the exception. These notable figures, as well as some of the most well-known and respected poets in the country, came together on Tuesday at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., for the dedication ceremony of the Maya Angelou limited-edition "Forever" stamp from the U.S. Postal Service.

Ambassador Andrew Young, poet Sonia Sanchez, author Sophia A. Nelson, poet Nikki Giovanni and professor Eleanor Traylor gave tributes to the iconic poet and activist, but Oprah stole the show.

"To stand here as her daughter-sister-friend ... I am honored to be here at the unveiling of the Maya forever—forever—stamp," she said, and went on to describe how she "literally LOLed" when she heard about Angelou's stamp.

"I knew that's exactly what Maya would have done. She would have heard the news, and she would have called me up, and she would have said, 'Babe, ha-ha-ha!'" Winfrey said. "They're going to have a stamp with my name and face on it. How incredible is that?' Upon hearing that news, I did my own ha-ha-ha! Incredible that this has happened. So thank you, United States Postal Service."

Angelou, who would have turned 87 on April 4, is being honored for her inspiring work not only as a poet but as a civil rights icon. Her stamp features the phrase, “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song,” which the USPS attributed to Angelou—though the direct quote may actually be from a different author. The Maya Angelou "Forever" stamp is now available for purchase here.
